[ You know he'd drop anything to see you Cid, urgent or not. And so with a quick "👍" reaction to his comment, Clive will begin to make his way to the very workshop that the older gentleman had specified.
It didn't take long, considering Clive knew his way around here like the back of his hand, and will soon be using it to knock against the door. Whether it's fully opened or not he would still like to make the formalities of an announced entrance. ]
Nothing seems to be out of place here. I was half expecting an explosion of some degree.
[Sassy as ever, this brat. Making him reconsider his plans!!
But Clive will find Cid at his desk, some schematics pinned to the wall and yet another new device on it that he was looking over to pass the time (a neck fan/cooler he had been working on thanks to the desert expeditions). And Cid will gesture for Clive to come over.]
[ He doesn't reply, merely approaches the work station with a soft smile before his eyes glance over the schematics. He never quite understood the deeply mathematical bits that he and Mid fussed about, and soon his brows will crease together with moderate concern. ]
This isn't about a some new intention, is it? Not sure how helpful I could be.
No, nothing like that, but I may be putting you to work soon enough.
[And well, he could drag it out, but what he has to say shouldn't really come as a surprise. So while just speaking as if it's another job Clive has to prepare himself for.]
I proposed to Benedikta and so you'll be needing to take care of the crew for a time once we decide when to wed.
[ It was difficult to process it all, at first. His mind was wheeling in all different directions, but eventually it landed on one distinct emotion— happiness. It was what the both of them wanted, and for it to finally come to fruition leaves Clive a little breathless. ]
So we all finally get our happy endings. [ He finally manages to say before taking a step closer, being the one now to reach over and firmly grip at Cid's shoulder. ]
I'm happy for you. Happy for you both. Congratulations, Cid!
[He can't help but smile a bit more broadly at Clive trying to process it at all. He knows he just basically dropped it on him like it's not big deal, but— Were he honest, he also still feels that joy and a bit of relief of finally securing that acceptance. And it will be with a chuckle that he accepts that hand, reaching up to pat it in appreciation and gratitude.]
Now, now, no need to get too excited.
[He says, but there's no helping that shine in his eyes.]
[ For as much grief as she had given him in the past (for the both of them) Clive had learned what a remarkable woman she was— as he is sure Cid knew from the very beginning. This world saw to it to reunite two souls destined for one another... and for them to finally join by means of marriage was more happiness than Clive could be expected to express. At least outwardly.
So for right now Cid will have to make due with a hearty shake of that shoulder, Clive's smile brightening a bit more. ]
I do, and not much longer, it seems. [ A small pause before: ] I don't suspect we will be invited to yours, though?
[Said jokingly because everyone knows he's been pestering her for months about it—
Instead he just chuckles as he sits back in his chair.]
She was ready—had been for a little while now, but I knew she still needed a little more time to sort things through and prepare herself. Once I noticed that she had...
[A small shrug.]
I decided to ask her with an actual ring this time.
[There's a quiet laugh before there's a brief flicker in his expression at that. It's long behind them now, but it's times like these and words like that that reminds him of how different things had been.
But that's not something to really be bothered by anymore. Past is the past and they've more they made up for it. That is something much more important to focus on.]
But that's that. I'll try to let you know before we actually head off, but I suggest you keep yourself prepared.
I'll be in contact with her, then. [ For as much as he knows the celebration that will be held on his account, he would at least like to be apart of the one for them. ]
Don't be away for too long. The crew will likely get restless without their captain aboard.
Not sure if I remember how to be a leader anymore. [ He'll comment with his own chuckle before casting Cid a thoughtful glance.
His shoulders are relaxed and content, but those eyes are burning just a bit brighter today. With a man of such few words, his body did most of the talking for him, and that body was over the stars for Cid. No words proper could express the happiness he felt inside, so a simple smile would have to do for now. ]
[ He'll duck his head down for the affectionate head pat and doesn't even try to resist or dodge away from them anymore. The feeling of the warm sensation overcoming both the top of his head and down throughout his body makes him smile a bit more, if not a bit shyly. ]
I've learned from the best. [ Okay now he'll move a bit out of the way, hair already distorted from the day's events. ]
I'm sure you have much to prepare for. If you require any assistance, do let me know ahead of time.

Other than fetching some hard to find materials?
[A wry grin.]
No, nothing like that, but I may be putting you to work soon enough.

—it's what is said after that nearly leaves his mouth fully agape.
Yeah. Dropping a bomb indeed. ]
Proposed? [ Wait, how many times had this been? ] You— to Benedikta? And she accepted?

But he watches with some amusement because really it wasn't a matter of if but when.]
She finally accepted, aye.

No, I think not. You know how she is and prefers a bit more privacy. And I think it's better for us as well.
no subject
If that was what got her to agree, then it's a fair compromise.
[ ... ]
... How did you get her to agree?

It was astounding to see how they've all grown... how he has grown, and his respect for the two could only go up from here. ]
It's no wonder she refused for so long. [ Not even a ring? C'mon Cid, you could do better than that!
Still, even with his playful remake the man continues to smile, a fondness veiling his tone. ]
But she could have not chosen a better man.

As if you don't, either. But same to you. If we're soon to be married men, we might as well have each other's backs, eh?
[A rough laugh as he nudges him with his elbow. Couldn't resist the age old "marriage" crack.]
I'll call you up for a drink later.
