[ Wait did Cid… really not have a clue? True, the entire thing was suppose to be a surprise, but Cid was far too calculating and wise to let that slip.
… But neither was Clive. ]
Jill has an incredibly kind soul- one of the kindest I have ever met. Perhaps she was trying to get to know more about you.
But I… can’t say I have a preference. It would depend on the situation.

Ha, maybe so. Wonder if she's trying to make something for me. Don't let her overdo it if she is.
[He is so close. But not there so they are very safe as he still does not even consider what the month is or what it could mean. He's just thinking Jill is trying to gift him something out of obligation or some favor from the past. Or a fit of whimsy, even.]
But that was what I told her! It depended on what it was and in the end I said "savory." She took it to mean I don't like desserts but that could be farther from the truth. I might not have the largest sweet tooth it I still enjoy them.
[ Make something for him........... yes! Yes, that's exactly what she's trying to do, it seems! Yet the more Clive is becoming aware of the situation the more awkward his fidgeting has become.
Thank the Founder Cid could not see his face.
He just had to keep playing it cool, and maybe help Jill out a little in the process! ]
Then if she were to make you some kind of dessert, what would it be?
[A few seconds before Clive may regret asking this question.]
Well I've always been fond of puddings. Something about that light, creamy texture and it's not too sweet. Cakes are fine, too, really any pastry. Cookies especially. Easy to hold and write at the same time.
And it can't be too sweet. I don't want to be feeling like I'm eating pure sugar. Not a fan of the chewy kind, either, like caramels. Nothing against them, I'll still eat them, just don't want a workout for my teeth. Annoying to pick out, too.
Speaking of sweetness, I do like a kick. Something a bit sharp or spice, like cinnamon.
Aye, and easier to come by where I was from. Can't remember the last time I had it.
[Not that it wasn't in Valisthea, but the key ingredient was only in certain areas so big so easy to have. And the whole outlaw living in a cave thing.]
And you just had to appreciate its finer flavor. Honestly miss them a bit.
[The apples here are of course normal, sweet, and delicious, but the taste of hard work and being able to taste the difference each time it changes is something he would always appreciate.

Clive, is Jill up to something?

Pardon? Did something happen with you and Jill?

I don’t see how those questions are anything out of the ordinary.

Which would you choose?

[He is answering very seriously.
Perhaps too seriously.]

Regrets? He's suddenly full of them. How did he suddenly get wrapped up in all of this? ]

Care to narrow it down a bit?

[Narrow it down... Narrow it down...
Oh!]
Actually if there's one dessert I haven't had in a while, it's a good rhubarb pie.

[ BUT THAT'S... a little beside the point! That's not exactly getting the answers he needed, so going to try to circle back around. ]
You mentioned cakes were just fine?
no subject
Aye, prefer the lighter ones myself. Had the chance to try quite the variety as of late.
[Thanks to a certain someone and their special outings—]

[ It wasn't a jab or meant to be rude- merely an honest inquiry!! Because that's absolutely what Jill had intended to do too, right? ]
Suppose that's better than the bitter apples you once ate.

[Can Clive guess yet—]
And you just had to appreciate its finer flavor. Honestly miss them a bit.

Not your idea? I didn't know Benedikta to have a sweet tooth.
[ Yes. He gets it! ]

[Why don't you take out Jill out for some nice desserts, Clive?]

Oh? I have heard of her fondness for "bon-bons".
You two are more alike then I realized.

And what makes you say that?
[Careful, Clive, he is not above sharing messages—]

Preferences. Stubbornness. Distance. There's a number of things I could compare.

Interesting choice of traits.
