Personality:
Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.

On the surface, Clive may seem very intimidating. He's a large, scarred individual with what looks to be a permanent scowl across his face. He often speaks in a low, gruff voice, and has the look of a man who's clearly been through some shit. The weight of the world and its events weathered down a once idealistic child full of honor and unfaltering loyalty into a man riddled with bitter revenge. However, if one were to dig a little deeper, they would discover someone who's been through hell and came out the other side alive.

There was a time after his brother's passing that Clive was a man solely fueled by hate and depravity. Forced into captivity, he lived thirteen years of his life doing the only thing he knew- fighting and killing. Clive was blinded by rage; combined with knowledge that his home was stripped away from him and all that he loved was killed, the only thing that consumed his life was death. Fighting in wars, sleeping in dirt, all while hanging on to the one thing that kept him alive... to eventually find and kill this brother's murderer Ifrit. Because of this Clive was seen as unapproachable, angry, and full of hatred for a world that seemed like every odd was against him.

However, the layers of depression would slowly begin to peel away when Clive first meets Cid, reunited with his childhood friend Jill, and eventually learning that his brother was actually alive. He was taken in, given a place to call his own and lived among people who would champion his cause. There we start to see a different side of Clive. One that, despite the sadness he wore like a sleeve, was always willing to help another person out. He nearly lacks the will to say no to someone, often agreeing to do any task that was asked of him, even down to the smallest request.

No longer was he a man driven by blind rage, but of acceptance and a force of compassion. It wasn't until he was able to resolve inside of himself that he was Ifrit that the barriers in his mind finally began to fall. He allowed himself to open up to others, as well as himself, and turned to being a sword for the people. He truly cares for the Bearer's suffering and does his best to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Clive is someone unabashed to show emotion, and does not hold back his tears when he needs to cry. And while he is still an induvial full of self-doubt, he strives to do the very best he can for others. Giving them an opportunity for a new life just as he was given.

So while his smiles might be few and far between, Clive allowed himself to open up to others and eventually even his heart to embrace his love for Jill. He's honestly just a big puppy now, so if you are able to get past the initial scare of this gruff looking man, you'll come to realize just how much his love for humanity expands.

What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?

Clive's goals are rather lofty, but can be summarized into one sentence: to allow people to live and die on their own terms. By taking on the task of destroying the Mothercrystals (a source of all magic in his world) Clive means to bring about the separation between man and Bearer (those born with the innate ability to use magic without the help of the crystals). For too long a person with the natural power to create magic were seen as lesser to an individual with no magic and treated like slaves. He, too, was marked a Bearer by his mother and was forced to fight for an army he held no loyalty to. Clive has witnessed the discrimination and injustice from those who view Bearers as unequal, and wishes to dim the line between person and Bearer.

Because of the atrocities done to someone who was simply born different and experienced those same hardships himself, this lead Clive to join up with the outlaw Cid. It was Cid who's initial plan was it to protect Bearers and give them a place to call their own. It was also Cid who realized that it was due to the Mothercrystals that their world was being consumed and rotted out by a curse known as the Blight. By destroying the crystal and all magic along with it, men could finally live as one. It was those grandiose ideas that lead Clive to follow him, and continued to do even after Cid's passing. He took on the mantle of "Cid the Outlaw", walking in his legacy and finishing the work that Cid was unfortunately not able to complete himself.

Expanding even further into this goals, Clive wishes for humanity to have free will- a right to choose. Because the god Ultima wanted to destroy his own creation, disappointing in the fact that in his absence humans developed a "will", Clive fights to protect all of humanity. It was Ultima who steadily was turning both men and wildlife alike into Akashic. These mindless, almost zombie-like creatures were stripped of their will and were forced to destroy anything non-Akashic. In order to protect the people of his world and the right to be able to choose, Clive resolves himself to fighting that which created him.

To see a world rid of the burdens which held them back as a civilization, to give people a choice, that is what he ultimately strived for until the very end.

What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?

Clive has a laundry list of regrets and mistakes that he has made over the years. For the longest time he regretted not being able to save his brother, who was supposedly killed by the Eikon Ifrit. He was his brother's First Shield, a title bestowed upon him as a protector, and lived his life festering hate for the monster. It was only until he discovered the truth- that he was actually Ifrit- that regret turned to despair. He blames himself for his brother's death, swearing to take his own life as payment for his crimes, but was able to come out of it thanks to the help of Cid who convinced him to discover the truth.

He also has the terrible habit of lacking the ability to rely on others. This does not specifically mean he does not ask for help, rather he feels the need to complete tasks on his own so that the possibility of others getting hurt is not an option. He's been scolded for this on multiple occasions, by Jill and his brother both, but the guilt of not wanting to burden others drives the man into dangerous situations.

On top of all of this, Clive is a bad liar. And while some may consider it a virtue rather than a flaw, it has both helped and harmed him in different situations. He is able to easily convince an individual knowing that his words are always true, but attempting to try and be incognito and someone he's not? Yeah, it's not happening.

Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?

I'M PAST THE WORD COUNT I'M SORRY I CAN'T SAY THAT CLIVE IS A LITTLE GUY WHO LOVES BOOKS AND THREATER AND CAN QUOTE SCRIPTS OF MEDEIVAL FANTASY SHAKESPEARE OKAY BYE.

Clive's life in Escordvi thus far, and his developments:

Since arriving to Escordvi Clive has experienced a roller coaster of emotions and experiences. After discovering that a plethora of both companions and enemies had been miraculously brought back to life, Clive was at first both relieved and terrified. He became overly protective of this second chance with his brother Joshua and mentor Cid, and remained on edge with those who had been less than kind to him in his own world. In time, with a mixture of mutual enemies and the threat of Ultima supposedly long forgotten, Clive was able to trust and even assist those who he had once been less than amicable with- mainly Benedikta.

However, after the discovery that Ultima was, in fact, not gone completely and still remained inside of Joshua, the Hideaway crew (along with their new established crew!) formed together to hunt for relics and ultimately (lol) eradicated the god for good.

Without the threat of Ultima looming over him and the impending doom of Valisthea disrupting his way of life, Clive has been able to… relax?! He smiles more, showing the residents that although the scars that was left behind can never be removed, that underneath his kindness can truly shine. While he was already a kind person before, rarely now does he need to use his full force and instead has unlocked a far more domestic side to him in the form of a chocobo rancher? Maybe? He keeps collecting animals and made a barn for them, so perhaps his farmer life had begun- Clive is also more trusting of others, allowing himself to let his guard down on the occasion and allow others to help him, as he is just as willing to do the same for others.

Even greater still was his growth and development with Jill. While their love for each other never wavered, the lack of looming despair hovering over their heads every day left room for something more quieter, something more sincere. Back home their hands were often tied by wars where only small pockets of peace were offered to them. But here, their relationship was able to blossom as they became more open with each other- telling one another their fears, worries, and things that had previously hindered their growth. They became more open with another, and (finally) after what seemed like a lifetime… Clive proposed!

Abilities & Inventory:
Clive is a Dominant of fire alongside his brother, which means he is able to control and literally become the Eikon Ifrit. While, for the moment, he will not be able to turn into the giant fiery beast, Clive will be able to transform into a miniaturized version of the summon until he progresses enough to be able to control his abilities.

Yet aside from becoming Ifrit, Clive possesses a special ability as "Mythos", which allows him to absorb the elements of other Eikons. This grants the man a portion of their powers to use as his own. For example, when first taking the essence of Garuda from Benedikta, he is able to use various wind abilities such as deadly embrace- a move which uses the wind as a claw to draw enemies closer to him. As Clive fights and becomes stronger, so does he have the option to have those abilities grow stronger alongside him.

These Eikon-based powers extend further from Garuda as during his journey Clive consumes the powers of Ramuh (lightening), Titan (earth), Shiva (ice), Bahamut (idk a mf light dragon), Odin (A GIANT DARKNESS SWORD MAN ON HIS HORSE), and the Phoenix itself. Being able to control and consume these various array of powers was his chosen destiny for being the "perfect vessel" created by the god Ultima.

Clive is also able to combine himself with the Phoenix, merging both Eikons into one giant, fiery winged beast called Ifrit Risen. This allows their powers to be enhanced exponentially with Joshua's barrier abilities and Clive's devastating Hellfire.

NOTE: Though Clive does have the ability to consume and use all of these powers, it should be noted that he will only primarily focus on his Ifrit for the time being and limiting his access to the other Eikon's magic.

Other abilities expand from here:

  • Blessing of the Phoenix which is a power granted to him by his brother and those of the First Shield. This allowed him at an early age to wield a small portion of Phoenix's powers to expand fire from his hands or create a small ball of flames that is able to light his path in dark areas.

  • Ifrit's Abilities allows Clive to use the power of fire in different ways. Will-o’-the-Wykes creates a storm of fireballs around him which damages those within range and also absorbs damage. Ignition forces foes back as he consumes himself with a fiery charge, and finally his Limit Break. With this Clive can go into a semi-primed state that makes all his attacks stronger and restores a bit of his health.

  • Full Priming is when Clive is able to fully become Ifrit, summoning deadly fireballs and unleashing devasting attacks such as Splitflare and Brimstone.

Inventory: Sword, clothes, and his trusty wolf companion Torgal.

ARMADA SELECTION

Clive would be best suited as a Corsairs. Despite growing up and learning the ways of being proper nobility, he takes on the title of "outlaw" and follows in the footsteps of those less traveled. He was treated like an outsider; cast off from normal society into a world where we was never treated as another man's equal. Clive has fought, killed many, and uprooted the lives of everyday people for an act he believed in. For an act he knew was right. This rebellious, and somewhat morally gray mentality puts him a position where he would fit nicely within this armada! I would love the opportunity to explore how he adjusts to his new surroundings and almost fits perfectly into a mold that he was forced to grow up in. To see him use his "street smarts" would be a fun thing to play out!
